Collegiate Addiction Treatment Program
College is an exciting time in many young adults’ lives. It’s a time when a person experiences freedom away from parents and learns to take control of their lives. It is also a time when many young adults are introduced to more pervasive drug and alcohol use. When a young adult begins experimenting with drugs and alcohol, it can become a harmful problem as time goes on. This is why we developed an addiction program for college students.
At Promises Brazos Valley, we work with young adults who find themselves caught in the cycle of harmful substance abuse. Addiction among college-aged people often goes untreated and can have huge impacts on their career and life goals. That’s why we are passionate about providing the best addiction treatment to support young adults in their recovery.
Addiction in Young Adults
According to the National Center for Drug Statistics, 43% of college students use illicit drugs, and about 20% of young adults abuse alcohol. Over time, this harmful substance use can become a larger problem, with about 10 million young people (ages 12-29) requiring substance use disorder treatment. However, only 1 in 10 will get the help they need.
Many college students turn to substances because of peer pressure, academic pressure and even social media influences. But there are mental health disorders that also factor into addiction in young adults. College students often turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with mental health disorders such as trauma, depression and anxiety.
When a young adult experiments with drugs and alcohol, it can quickly develop into a larger problem. A study from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows that 1 in 4 college students who abuse substances, especially alcohol, experience academic consequences like missing class, falling behind on assignments and doing poorly on tests and papers. This can result in a lower grade, with many students dropping out altogether.
That’s why getting young adults the support they need during these newly independent years is so important. Our Brazos Valley rehab works to empower college students to feel confident in their identity without the need for damaging substances. We want to see young adults thrive as they move towards their best and brightest futures.
But What Makes it an Addiction Program for College Students?
At Promises Brazos Valley, we have created a collegiate program to support young adults in addiction recovery. In this program, college-aged young adults will evaluate their addiction and build confidence around their most authentic selves, one that doesn’t require the harmful use of drugs and alcohol. Young adults will address underlying mental health disorders that may be factoring into their substance use behaviors.
Our Brazos Valley rehab center offers a safe, comfortable place for young adults to heal in a place that feels like home. Our program allows students to work through the program together—meaning they will have group sessions and schedules that allow for peer-to-peer bonding with clients of a similar age.
