What to Bring to Women’s Addiction Treatment

What can I bring to rehab? Going to rehab can be overwhelming, especially for women who may not have done it before. If you are a woman needing help with addiction, you might be wondering what kind of things you should bring to a women’s addiction treatment center. Knowing what you can and cannot bring is essential since there are many restrictions. Knowing what to take and what to leave home can help you feel more comfortable during your stay, making it easier to stay focused on recovery.

At Promises Brazos Valley, we understand that your first time at an addiction treatment center may be a little scary. You may not know what to expect or what to pack for rehab. Knowing which items are restricted is better to avoid having to part with them when you arrive at the facility is better. There are also several items you can bring to help enhance your treatment. If you have any questions about what to bring to women’s addiction treatment, reach out to Promises Brazos Valley at 979.426.0086.

What to Bring to Women’s Addiction Treatment

Before you leave for your stay at an inpatient women’s addiction treatment center, think about what items you will need while you are away. Consider your daily essentials like:

Clothing

The amount of clothing you need depends on how long you will stay at the facility. A good rule of thumb is to bring approximately five to seven days’ worth of clothing. Laundry services are typically offered at the treatment center, so you do not need a change of clothes for each day. The facility will be climate controlled, but some tend to keep the air conditioning or heating on high, so bringing layers to maintain your comfort is beneficial.

Find out if your treatment facility has restrictions on certain clothing items. For example, some may require that shorts or skirts be a certain length. Tank tops or crop tops may also be restricted. Additionally, any clothing with images that portray drug or alcohol use would not be permitted.

Comfortable Footwear

You will likely be indoors much of the time, although you will be given some time outdoors when the weather cooperates. Many women bring slippers or other comfortable slip-on shoes to wear indoors and a pair of sneakers for when they go outside. You may also wish to bring flip-flops or water shoes for the shower. Some treatment centers do not allow shoelaces, so it is recommended that you choose slip-on shoes or those that use velcro instead of laces.

Toiletries

It is a good idea to bring enough toiletries to cover you for one month. There are some restrictions on which toiletries are allowed into the treatment center. Everything must be alcohol-free, which rules out perfumes and certain mouthwashes and hair sprays. Some skin care products or hand sanitizers may also be restricted, so it is best to contact the facility to double-check before you pack.

Razors and nail clippers may be permitted but will likely need to be stored in a safe location, monitored by staff, and checked out for use during your morning routine.

Journal or Notebook

Many women benefit from writing or drawing as a creative outlet while receiving addiction treatment. Treat yourself to a special journal prior to your stay at the facility to commemorate this significant change in your life.
